Got annoyed at a $49 TablePlus renewal, so I had Opus 5.5 build me a replacement in 2 days!

My TablePlus license came up for renewal ($49/year) and I got annoyed enough to think "I'll just build my own." So I actually did 😅 And honestly? It turned out way better than I expected. The twist: I didn't really write it, Claude Code with Opus 5.5 did. Two days, and it used about 10% of the weekly limit on my $200 Max plan. The result has almost the same feature set as TablePlus: • Native macOS app in Rust, built on GPUI (Zed's UI framework). No Electron. • 20 databases: Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, ClickHouse, DuckDB, Snowflake, MongoDB, Redis… • A GPU-rendered grid that scrolls 500k rows smoothly, in-place cell editing, one-transaction saves • A SQL editor with language-server completions • An AI panel that writes queries into a tab (you still decide when they run) • SSH tunnels, backup and restore, export, 30+ themes The part that surprised me most wasn't the code. Opus also handled everything around it: • Signing and notarizing the app, plus auto-updates with Sparkle • The GitHub Actions CI and a one-command release pipeline • A Homebrew tap • Screenshots and the README, even the demo video in this post When something broke, it actually ran the app, took screenshots, and debugged from what it saw.
