Why I still use ChatGPT

Let me get this out of the way first: I love Claude. I genuinely do. I'm not a programmer, but Claude helped me build a couple of games and a pretty big archival project that would have stayed a pipe dream without it. For creative writing, literary translation, and anything that needs real taste and a feel for language, it's the best there is for me. I pay for Max, I live in Claude, and I keep ChatGPT open for exactly one thing. That one thing is finding movies from fragments of memory, /r/tipofmytongue style. "Saw it on TV as a kid, there was a boy, some kind of machine, I think it was winter, and the ending traumatized me." I got into this hobby around the time Opus 4.6 came out, and it's grown a lot since. I started with simple prompts. Now I have a full-blown project: detailed instructions and project files that change the search strategy depending on how complete the original memory is. I actually maintain two separate sets of instructions, one for Claude and one for GPT, each tuned to how that model behaves, its context window, and the specific ways it tends to fail. I've really tried to give Claude every chance. With every new release I think: okay, this is the one. I run the same cases and get the same result every time. GPT-5.6 Sol Pro (much better at this than Astra, by the way) solves about 8 out of 10, including some truly hopeless threads that sat unsolved for years. Claude solves about 1 out of 10, and only when the case isn't very hard. I've tried Fable on Max and Opus 5.5, and it's always the same. GPT absolutely wipes the floor with Claude, and it honestly hurts to watch. What confuses me most is that in everything else, Claude feels smarter to me. It picks up nuance better, writes better, and reasons better. But when I ask it to find a movie, it runs a few searches, lands on a plausible candidate, and confidently stops there, even when that candidate matches two of six clues. Right now I'm trying to rebuild the whole setup in Claude Code. Maybe agentic mode, subagents, and unrestricted web access will change something. So my question to you: is this a fundamental limitation of Claude for this kind of task, or is it a skill issue on my end? If anyone has gotten Claude to perform well on needle-in-a-haystack tasks like identifying movies, books, or songs, or OSINT-style searching, please tell me what actually worked: prompt structure, search setup, subagents, MCP servers, anything. I really want my favorite tool to finally get this one right too.
