I built an open-source terminal coding agent (miii). People kept asking for a window, so I added miii web, a desktop-style UI that runs on localhost

Hey everyone, A while back I started building miii, a free, open-source coding agent for the terminal. It plans, reads and edits files, runs your tests, and checks the result before saying it's done. You bring your own keys (Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and others, 14+ providers) or run it fully locally with Ollama. There's no account and no subscription. The feedback I kept getting was some version of: "Love it, but I'm not a terminal person." Fair enough. So this week I shipped: npm i -g miii-agent miii web It opens a desktop-style app in your browser, similar in feel to Claude Desktop. It drives the exact same agent as the terminal version, not a separate reimplementation. What's in it: Streaming markdown responses, with collapsible tool calls Inline diffs you review before approving Paste an image (for example a screenshot of a broken UI) straight into the chat Pickers for model, provider, effort and mode, plus a slash-command palette Sessions, permission rules, hooks, MCP servers and checkpoints shared with the TUI, so you can start in the terminal and continue in the browser Reload the tab mid-task and it resumes, because the transcript lives on the server side For the security-minded: It binds to 127.0.0.1 only A per-run token is printed at startup and required on every request Non-loopback Host headers are rejected, which blocks DNS rebinding The server is plain node:http plus SSE, with no new runtime dependencies The frontend is React, Vite, Tailwind v4 and shadcn/ui, built into the npm package, so there's no separate install. Why I'm building this: most good agentic coding tools lock you into one vendor, a monthly subscription, and a bill in dollars. I wanted something where you choose the model, including local ones, and pay nothing for the tool itself.
