I always found myself looking in my fridge wondering what I can make when I see I have something like some chicken breast and a vegetable. This resulted in super boring meals all the time. I have a pantry filled with tons of seasonings, vinegars, spices, rice, ramen, sauces in my fridge, etc but I often didn’t end up using them cause I couldn’t remember everything I had and didn’t feel like looking and figuring out how to make something different.
I created this app primarily so I could have a ‘staples’ page where I list out all of the things I pretty much always have on hand. I just type in what I’m looking at in my fridge (chicken breast, broccoli) then Claude gives me 3 different recipes I can make that factors in all of my staples (I can have it generate more if I want). This has resulted in me making so many more interesting recipes. I also have Claude using cooking fundamentals from my two favorite cooking books (The Food Lab and Salt Fat Acid Heat). So when a recipe is generated, it’s using all of those fundamentals in its instructions.
It also can capture recipes on websites so I can find any recipe online and it captures it and adds it as a tile in my library. I can then ask anything I want about it (what goes good with this, meal prep ideas for this, substitutions, etc). Since it’s a PWA the URL capture required me to make a safari shortcut since AI gets blocked from a lot of sites (my favorite being seriouseats). I can also upload images as well so I can add in recipes from cookbooks and magazines I have and I can even use my own custom image for the dish once I’ve made it.
If there’s enough interest I’d be happy to open source it.
